Sometimes you discover a fascinating band and you shake your head wondering “how in the world did this band pass me by without me ever noticing them anywhere?”. This recently happened to me anew with KAMMERFLIMMER KOLLEKTIEF. Just a stone’s throw from Berlin, this remarkable trio from Karlsruhe, consisting of Heike Aumüller, Johannes Frisch, and Thomas Weber is already active since 1998. Their work may be placed somewhere between free jazz, electronica, new music, and noise, packed into a total of 17 releases. In fact, it is impossible to put any label on the work of KAMMERFLIMMER KOLLEKTIEF, which has been removed from all pigeonholes. A multicolored wealth of ideas and lively improvisation and experimentation nevertheless always unite in minimalist unobtrusiveness. Everything flows into each other here and is in constant change. While one moment you can still hear playful elements of folk and country music, the next moment you are swept away by electronic drones and made anxious with disturbing string experiments…. Here it is worth to invest time and listen several times. Album of the hour: Jinx.
