ABOUT META MEAT
META MEAT is a French duo consisting of the two musicians and composers Hugues Villette and Phil Von. Together they create a powerful mix of electro, tribal and industrial. However, they go unconventional ways, and this is reflected in their unique and massive sound. This is, inter alia, due to the special background of Phil Von, who is also a performer and flamenco dancer, and who brings his dancing skills into the project by creating part of the drums with his shoes. This can be seen very impressively at META MEAT’s live performances.
The two released their debut album METAMEAT in 2016 on the German label ant-zen. In 2021 they released their second album INFRASUPRA, also on ant-zen. In 2022, META MEAT contributed a remix to Sonic Area’s album KI (Remixes). Both musicians are also involved in the London project Von Magnet, founded in 1985, as well as solo in many other projects.
THE VIDEO “FILM”
In today’s T/VOTD, the video is in the foreground, whereby the music is in no way subordinate to the visual part. Both are equally powerful here and form a perfect symbiosis. The video shows the two musicians Hugues Villette and Phil Von in action, as well as Sakurako – a dancer who puts on a very expressive and impressive performance. In some moments she seems to embody the music exactly and to become completely one with it. Even the outdoor shots, in which the three of them simply take a walk with the evening sun behind them, take on a psychedelic note through the interaction of sound and film and transport the recipient into another world for a few minutes.
Franck Villette directed the film based on an idea by Hugues Villette, who also did the editing. By the way, the title that can be heard in this video is BACKSTITCH from their debut album METAMEAT.
With their two tracks TRAMPLED and RESURGENT from the album INFRASUPRA, META MEAT were represented in the fifth part of the broadcast series UNEARTHED.
