TRACK OF THE DAY:
EL TOPO (FEAT. NIKLAS WANDT) by TAKESHI’S CASHEW
cumbia / psychedelic / funk
March has brought so many great releases that it’s impossible to listen through them all – but instead of presenting something new in this category, here we go again with TAKESHI’S CASHEW! (laugh)
The brand new and second album ENTER J’S CHAMBER was released today and its eleventh track EL TOPO (FEAT. NIKLAS WANDT) immediately lit so much enthusiasm that it had to be selected for today’s Track Of The Day.
Psychedelic Cosmofunk, that’s what the six-piece band from Vienna calls their colorful mixture of groovy funk and cumbia rhythms, electronic beats and psychedelic rock of the 70s – all played and recorded analog, enriched with a collection of folklore instruments. The boundless joy of experimenting and playing of the mercurial Austrians is evident on every note and in every track, but EL TOPO tops it all with its heroic, beheartened attitude and nonchalant rhythms. You almost see yourself riding through the desert in a black hat like the protagonist of Jodorowsky’s iconic eponymous movie. Thank you, Takeshi’s Cashew, for this excellent highlight!
Similar to Takeshi’s Cashew’s earlier Track Of The Day THERE IS NO HARMONY, there are also some spoken passages to be heard, namely by the German musician and speaker NIKLAS WANDT.
