WHAT HAVE I DONE FOR LOVE is the ninth track on ANNA KANEELINA’s self-titled debut album, released in February 2019 via Erik Lindström Music. The music was written by ERKI PÄRNOJA.
ABOUT ANNA KANEELINA
ANNA KANEELINA, a.k.a. Anna Põldvee or Anna Pärnoja, is an Estonian singer-songwriter and musician. For many years she has been best known for performing with her husband Erki Pärnoja, a renowned guitarist and composer from Tallinn. She has also performed with the band Unna Torm and with the Tõnu Naissoo’s ensemble in Estonia and the USA. She officially launched her solo career in 2019 with the release of her eponymous debut album and conceded several awards for it in her home country.
ABOUT WHAT HAVE I DONE FOR LOVE
It was the battle with postpartum depression that has fueled the will to become “a new voice from the wilderness singing of love, experience and change” and to embark a journey to her own creative expression. Elements of 70ies psychedelic rock and experimental folk strongly remind of Jeffersons Airplane, while her vocals carry a spark of Kate Bush. WHAT HAVE I DONE FOR LOVE is a honest and vulnerable reflection on the own search for love and the self-betrayal and self-deception that comes with it, eventually transforming into love by understanding. She says: “you learn to understand yourself, love and life. How everything is love – we can choose love and do every little thing through love. Love is the air.”
The accompanying music video was directed by Jekaterina Abramova. It shows Anna Kaneelina dancing in front of a blue sky. The red veil, which dances in the wind to the psychedelic sounds, seems almost like a symbol of the inner liberation described above.
